Basque Country

Wild Atlantic coastline, Europe's oldest language — and a table both France and Spain claim.

The region

Europe's oldest people never asked permission to be themselves. They still don't.

The Basques kept their language, their pelota, their pepper and their surf through every empire that came for them — and drew a border they treat as a suggestion. On one side Biarritz and the Hôtel du Palais; forty minutes over the line, the greatest concentration of Michelin stars per head on earth. We move freely between both, because the people who matter here are friends, not front desks.

10,000+ years of historyEuskara — Europe's oldest living language128 km of wild coastlineOne people, two countries
Whitewashed Basque houses with red shutters over the Nive at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port
Ten thousand years — and never assimilated

History that refused to blend.

Older than Rome, older than the border that cuts it in two — a people whose language has no known relatives, whose villages wear red and green like a declaration, and whose identity outlasted every empire that tried.

We walk it with the people who live it — a pilgrim's stage through Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the road to Compostela, a game of pelote explained by the man who built the fronton, an evening of songs in a language ten millennia deep.

Biarritz

The rock an empress chose.

Napoleon III built the footbridge; the Atlantic has been trying to take it back ever since. Walk it at dusk, when the swell is up.

A travel house — not a tourism office

Why us.

A tourism office hands you a map. We hand you to the people who are the Basque Country — the surfer who grew up on the Grande Plage, the shepherd who makes Ossau-Iraty at altitude, the pintxos chef who keeps the counter seats for friends. Twenty-five years of friendships open doors no brochure can.

iTwenty-five years of real relationshipsNot suppliers on a commission — friends who open their own doors.
iiAround fifty journeys a year, never off-the-shelfEach built from nothing. We turn most inquiries away.
iiiMarie reads every inquiry herselfA real conversation, and a reply within two days — or nothing at all.
